6th Grade Exploratory
Creative Writing
Teacher: Mrs. Clark/Ms. Toles
Classroom: Lab 2
Welcome!!Course Description: In this semester class we are focusing on increasing your student’s confidence in his/her writing skills. The ability to write coherently is one of the most sought after job skills in the 21st century. Therefore, we want to build an understanding of the writing process and refine your student’s abilities to express him/her self. Future achievement tests will be done at the computer, so becoming familiar with this method of written expression is important.
Curriculum: We will be using daily prompts, vocabulary building activities, the Storybird website to develop writing narratives and the Study Island website where students can work on Common Core ELA skills needed in their weekly writing prompts
Materials: Your student will need their agenda book, a pencil and 2 pocket folder on a daily basis. They will also be issued an I-drive folder on our school server. This folder, however, cannot accessed from home. So a flash or thumb drive, while not necessary, has been found useful to back up and store writing projects.
Grading: Grades will be taken weekly. These will involve participation in daily writing activites and the submission of a weekly written piece.
Late Work: In the event of an absence, this class allows your student two days to make up work for each day missed. There will be a classroom agenda that your student can consult to determine what they have missed. It is your student’s responsibility to consult the agenda and make up all late work on time.
